Waste4Future - Sorting black plastics using THz sensor technology
Fraunhofer FHR will also be demonstrating the capabilities of its radar sensors at the WCNDT with the Waste4Future project. In Waste4Future, seven Fraunhofer institutes are working on optimizing the sorting of plastic waste for better recycling options. The aim is to separate so-called "shredder light fractions" with an accuracy of over 90 percent. Until now, the plastic shreds have usually only been examined using an infrared sensor. With Waste4Future, a sensor suite ensures improved sorting: by combining infrared, thermographic, ultrasonic and terahertz sensors, the sorting quality can be maximized.
