Fraunhofer FHR hosts 5th Summer School on Radar
For the 5th time already, Fraunhofer FHR holds the “International Summer School on Radar / SAR” in Remagen, near Bonn. The Summer School is chaired by Prof. Dr. Joachim Ender. On the occasion of the anniversary, Remagen’s Mayor Herbert Georgi visited the event.
By now, the town of Remagen is also well known in the community of Radar scientists: Once per year, 50 young scientists – mostly PhD candidates – from all over the world come together in House Humboldtstein, an old villa aside the Rhine, to learn from international acknowledged Radar experts.
Since 2009, Fraunhofer FHR organizes the “International Summer School on Radar / SAR” to foster research in the field of Radar and young professionals. Participants have to apply before they are allowed to take part. Strict criteria are applied: From over 100 applicants, only 40 to 50 are invited to attend the classes. This year’s participants are from Belgium Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Poland, Rumania, Spain, South Africa, Czech Republic and Turkey.
Right after the lectures, the students are enabled to train and apply their recently obtained knowledge in workshops. Furthermore, an attractive social program with visits of the Cologne Cathedral, the city of Bonn and a bike tour through the Rhine Valley guarantees the participants a good time during their stay.
Besides Prof. Ender other well-known scientists will give lectures, such as: Dr. P. Rosen (JPL / USA), Prof. Pierfrancesco Lombardo (University of Rome / Italy), Prof. Alexander Yarovoy (Delft Technical University / the Netherlands), Dr. Christoph Gierull (DRCD / Canada), Dr. G. Fornaro (IREA, Italy), Prof. M. Lesturgie (ONERA / France), Prof. Dirk Heberling (RWTH Aachen) und Dr. Matthias Weiß (Fraunhofer FHR).
The Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques (FHR) is one of the largest research institutes on Radar in Europe. It is located in Wachtberg, near Bonn, and has a subsidiary at the nearby University of Applied Sciences RheinAhrCampus Remagen.
